I'm converting our company's web site to use style
sheets, and want to be able to test the appearance in
IE5.5 and IE 5, since I can't be sure that "visitors"
will have upgraded their browsers. (I upgraded to IE6
some time ago.) I know it used to be possible to download
and run multiple versions of Netscape - is it possible to
do the same kind of thing with IE? I don't want to
clobber my "live" IE 6.

TIA!

Separate versions of IE need to be installed on separate bootable partitions
that run versions of Windows that come with an IE no higher than what you
want to run on that partition.

Oh well. Maybe I can set up a test system with a couple
of older OS's and their "native" versions of IE. Thanks
for the information.

You cannot install more than one version of IE on each bootable partition of
a hard drive. This is due to file sharing between the OS and IE. What you
will have to do is to format your hard drive into multiple partitions,
installing a version of Windows and a version of IE that the OS supports on
each partition.

These programs can help you with this matter:

Partition Magic - http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/

However, IE 4 and 5 can exist together in some form:
